A Lancaster County "Manual Settings-Super Simplified" Bootcamp! Wednesday, June 22nd

Our "le potager" area, where we will practice our new skills, weather permitting!

Yes!  Finally!  A Kim Winey Photography camera class in Lancaster County!

Manual Settings-Super Simplified is a non-intimidating time of learning how to adjust your camera's settings to create consistent, properly exposed photos.  Visual aids & inspiring images will be used to explain the three parts of the exposure triangle ~ ISO, aperture and shutter speed.
To give everyone even more options, this year, I have broken my "Manual Settings Simplified" class into two segments.  I highly, highly recommend that you opt for both sessions, but if shortness of time or shortness of funds is a factor, you now have the option of fast-tracking and attending session 1 only if that suits you.

Session 1 ~ $150  {6:00pm - 7:30pm}

Manual Settings - Super Simplified!

Join me for a non-intimidating time of learning how to adjust your camera's settings to create consistent, properly exposed photos.  Visual aids & inspiring images will be used to explain the three parts of the exposure triangle ~ ISO, aperture and shutter speed.

During session 1 a small amount of time will be given to change the settings on your own camera & observe the results of those changes.  If time permits we will also have Q & A at the end of session 1.

Session 2  ~ $150 {7:30pm-9:00pm}

Manual Settings - Super Simplified Part 2!

Now that the basics of the exposure triangle have been covered we will touch on a few more important camera details, then time permitting, jump right into additional hands-on practice time to more fully explore and understand how shooting in manual mode works.

Sessions 1 & 2 combined in one day ~ $250  *A $50 savings*  {6:00pm-9:00pm}

To secure your seat and sign up for our next Bootcamp please email kimwineyphotography@gmail.com or call 717-689-3277.  *Paypal is available on the right side of this blog and is ready to receive your Bootcamp payment.

All Bootcamp students will also be added to our private Facebook group where additional support and information is given throughout the year.

And new in 2016- all former Manual Settings Simplified students are welcome to join the class again, in a "silent seat".  This option is complimentary and is available for any former students who would like a refresher course.  Please email Kim to reserve your seat, as spaces are limited.

.....

General Bootcamp Q & A~

Q: Should I bring a camera and if so, what kind?

A: Yes, please bring your digital camera!  Part of getting a good grasp on Manual Settings is learning where the dials and buttons are on YOUR particular camera.  You can bring a point and shoot or a DSLR, so long as there is a Manual Mode option.  It will appear as an "M", on your mode dial.  If you are unsure about your particular camera, please feel free to give me a call and we'll figure it out, together!  {717-689-3277}

Q: How should I prepare my camera?

A: You should have your battery fully charged, with a back up on hand, if possible.  Please bring a memory card or two, with LOTS of space to take pictures.  *If you can empty your card before the class, that would be fabulous!  Also, mental preparedness is key to any new adventure.  Please take a moment to warn your auto-setting that you will no longer be needing its services.

Q: Do I need to bring anything else?

A: Yes.  Please bring your camera's manual. You know... the little book that came with your camera, that you glanced at, got overwhelmed with and so now you're taking my class to decipher it.  Yes... that's the one.  For bonus points, mark the sections that explain how to change your ISO, aperture & shutter speed.  This may save us a lot of time, in class.  If, like me, you threw out your English version and only retained the Spanish copy, you can a) download the info from the internet or b) don't worry about it and we'll figure it out, in class.

Q: What should I wear and are boots required?

A: Dress comfortably!  I myself, will be wearing my work clothes.  No, not my striped, pink PJ's, though that is tempting...  jeans and a nice top.  Boots are recommended in some locations, however they are not necessary in the Lancaster County spot.

Q: Will there be drinks or snacks at the Bootcamp?

A: I can't really go more than 2 hours without food, so yes.  For sure.  Yes.  Hot coffee & tea, a cold beverage, and chocolate will all be provided, at the very least.   :)

Additional questions may be left in the comments, below!

Looking forward to another great year of knowledge sharing and growth for our photo-loving community!

February Bootcamps and learning opportunities!

Bootcamps & learning opportunities are in full swing!

This Sunday, February 14th, we are having out first "Class-y Party ~ Capturing the Camera Lover".

This is a combination of both a class and a party.  See what we did there?  ;)

For our class time, my hubby and I have put together a list of fun and EASY ideas for both you and your special someone to help get you, the camera-lover, into more photos.   This is a non-techy class.  All skill levels are welcome

You can read more about this event here.

On Saturday, February  20th, our "Manual Settings-Super Simplified" is taking place again.

This is a non-intimidating time of learning how to adjust your camera's settings to create consistent, properly exposed photos.  Visual aids & inspiring images will be used to explain the three parts of the exposure triangle ~ ISO, aperture and shutter speed.

Information about "MSSS" can be found here.

*All silent seats are filled for this class.

To round out this month of love we are having a "Taking it to the Next Level" Bootcamp, on February 27th.

During this class you will discover unique ways to create photos filled with physical and emotional depth; story telling photography; how to "read" available light; analyze photos; and more.

Taking it to the next level is perfect for anyone looking to add some "wow!" to their images. Knowing how to shoot in manual mode is beneficial (really beneficial), but not necessary.

Date: Saturday, February 27th

Time: 9:00am - 1:30pm

Location: Dalton, Pa

Investment: $450

*Silent Seats are once again available for the "Taking it to the Next Level" Bootcamp. This option is complimentary and is available for any former "Taking it to the Next Level" students who would like a refresher course.  Please email Kim to reserve your seat, as spaces are limited.

Capturing the Camera Lover! A "Class-y Party"

If you're like me and you love taking pictures, you're probably also like me... and you're hardly ever IN pictures.

This can be sort of depressing especially after a vacation, when you're looking through albums and realize that you're not in one. single. photo.   Or after the holidays you glance through your digitals and ohmywordithappenedagain... you are nowhere to be found.

It's difficult to explain how truly bad this feels, unless you've experienced it.  But in short, when you look at these collections of photos and you're not in any of them, it's almost like you weren't there.  There is no tangible record of your existence in those moments.

And it's just sad.

Now that we're all depressed, let's talk about a possible solution I've been working on.

I'm calling it the "Class-y Party - Capturing the camera lover."

On Sunday, February 14th, in Dalton, Pa, we will have a fun, low key, and informative class + party. You do not have to come with a spouse. Boyfriends, mothers, sisters, etc... can be your other half. The idea is to bring the person who would be most likely to capture you in photos, during this phase of your life.

For our class time, I've put together a list of fun and EASY ideas for both you and your special someone to help get you, the camera-lover, into more photos.   This is a non-techy class.  All skill levels are welcome!

The investment for the class-y party will be: $35 per "couple". OR $25 per couple, if you bring an appetizer or dessert to share.

The fun will begin at 6:30pm, and end at about 9:00pm. The attire is attractively casual.  The location is a rustic cabin.  The class portion of our evening will be held early on, followed by much mingling, eating, and putting our new skills into practice.

Please RSVP, as we are limited in space.

You can private message me on Facebook, email (kimwineyphotography@gmail.com) or call (717-689-3277) to secure your spots!

Also, this class has been put to the real-life test!  My hubby helped with the creation of the class and by following the suggestions in it we have greatly increased the number of photos that I am in. Now we have proof that I went on vacation, attended family gatherings and existed in general.  Thank you, Fred & also to our son, Cman who picks up the camera duties now and then, as well.  I love you both and I'm very happy to have photographic evidence of that love!

It's time for another "Manual Settings-Super Simplified" Bootcamp!

Can I tell you how exciting it is to be booking the third Manual Settings class of 2016?  I was content with one!  After that, I planned to move on to "Taking it to the next level"and "Communications and Posing"  But there are more women who are eager to learn how to get off of "auto" and get into intentional, creative, picture taking mode (aka manual mode), and I couldn't be happier to help them on that journey!

Saturday, February 20th, is our next "Manual Settings-Super Simplified" Bootcamp.  The location will be in Northeastern Pennsylvania.  More details will be coming, once I see how many ladies are joining the fun.

During session 1 a small amount of time will be given to change the settings on your own camera & observe the results of those changes.  If time permits we will also have Q & A at the end of session 1.

*You may opt to take just session 1 on February 20th and come back for session 2 on a future Bootcamp day.  Dates to be announced.*

Session 2  ~ $150 {11:15am-12:45pm}

Manual Settings - Super Simplified Part 2!

Now that the basics of the exposure triangle have been covered we will touch on a few more important camera details, then time permitting, jump right into additional hands-on practice time to more fully explore and understand how shooting in manual mode works.

May 17th. Why THIS Bootcamp is the Bootcamp for you. {moms & dads}

There is a universal sadness that I hear repeated by parent after parent.

It is a lament about the unstoppable passage of time.

It takes our babies and then in the blink of an eye, a sweet and sassy toddler appears in his place.

*Blink* again- we now have a precocious preschooler.

And try as we might, to hold back our blinks and the subsequent passage of time, the years fly by and our babies grow up.  {Mine included. sniff sniff}

Sadly, I have yet to learn the skill of stopping time.  But I HAVE learned how to preserve the meaningful moments in our lives.  And on Saturday, May 17th, I would like to share this skill set with you.

During session one {9:00am-12:30pm, investment- $300} you will learn how to use your camera in manual mode.  Translation: No more blurry photos, dark photos, or missed moments.  You will have the tools to control your camera and produce more consistent, properly exposed photos.

During session two {1:30-4:30pm, investment- $300}  "real life. your life." will be explained in detail.  My goal is to help you master photographic story telling, to capture the moments of your rapidly growing children and family.

Please don't let another year of "I wish I knew how to take better pictures of my family" pass. You can't go back in time and re-do the photos of your life.  Learn these skills now and preserve your memories forever.

To secure your seat at this important {and possibly emotional} Bootcamp, please email kimwineyphotography@gmail.com, or call 717-689-3277 {office hours are most Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays}.  A $150 deposit is required to reserve your seat.  The remaining balance may be paid at the Bootcamp.

Location: Dalton, Pa  As always, yummies will be provided.  :)

**Referral discount**  Refer a friend who attends and a $50 "Thank you!" discount will be given to you!

*PS Please excuse the sepia photos.  They were black and white, until Blogger got a hold of them and decided that sepia was better.

You know... that little book that came with your camera, that you glanced at, got overwhelmed with and so now you're taking my class to decipher it.  Yes... that's the one.  For bonus points, mark the sections that explain how to change your ISO, aperture & shutter speed.  This may save us a lot of time, in class.  If, like me, you threw out your English version and only retained the Spanish copy, you can a) download the info from the internet or b) don't worry about it and we'll figure it out, at the cabin.  If you would also like to bring a laptop & cable to connect your camera to the laptop, you may.  There may be time, at the end of the second session for you to upload some of your photos for larger viewing.  This is optional and is not required.

Q: What should I wear and are boots required?

A: Dress comfortably!  I myself, will be wearing my work clothes.  No, not my striped, pink PJ's, though that is tempting...  jeans and a nice top.  Boots are recommended, as we will be in the country and the ground gets mushy, but they are not required.

Q: What kinds of food will you be serving?

A:  The good kind!  Cold and hot drinks will be on hand, all day.  Obbbbbviously, chocolate will be a special guest.  I will have fruit (at least) during the morning session.  And the lunch menu is still bouncing around in my brain!  Please let me know if you have any allergies or dietary needs.
